Many new rules went into effect in 2019 which apply to all amateur golfers. Our Handicap Chairman, John Mayfield, provided us with a series of very short YouTube videos which clearly demonstrate the rule changes. We encourage everyone to click on the WA GOLF Icon to view these videos. Each video is generally less than 90 seconds. The overall driving force behind many of these changes was to improve the pace-of-play and enhance the enjoyment of golf.
With the USGA releasing their new GHIN product platform in 2019, WA GOLF now bills each golf club for all active members on their rosters effective February 1st each year. They ask all clubs to inactivate unpaid members prior to that time to avoid being billed for members who have not yet joined the club. This feature prompted our new policy for early renewing members. January 26th provides our Handicap Chairman a small window in which to update our active membership roster prior to being charged for membership.
We (and WA GOLF) encourage all members who may travel south, to areas where GHIN is not frozen for the winter, to renew their memberships prior to the January 26 deadline to avoid having their GHIN's inactivated until they are paid.
After 3 years at Olympia Country & Golf Club, Mitch accepted a position at Seattle Golf Club in May of 2015. He was very grateful to work under PGA Professional Doug Doxsie, who has been a very influential golf professional in the Northwest for more than 30 years. In February of 2018 Mitch took another position at the Overlake Golf & Country
Our newest addition, and yet another improvement to our Golf Course Staff is Head Professional Mitchell "Mitch" Berschauer, recently appointed by Craig Moore. Mitch grew up in Olympia WA and attended Capital High School where he was a 3-time State competitor on the men’s golf team. Following high school, Mitch attended Olympic College on a golf scholarship. In 2010 Mitch was an essential part of the Rangers golf team at Olympic, leading them to a 2nd place finish in the NWACC Championships with rounds of 71, 72, 70. After college Mitch moved home to begin his career in the golf industry, working at Olympia Country & Golf Club.
